On Monday at 8 a.m., Action EMS will begin providing emergency transportation services in Pittsfield.
The Valentine's Day switch will return the city to a model of dual private providers, with County Ambulance continuing to deliver services.

"We're going to be set to go," stated fire chief Bob Czerwinski, who is overseeing the transition.
Action has opened one office and dispatch center on Seymour Street and completed a lease for a second site on West Housatonic Street. County Ambulance continues to operate from a base on Wahconah Street.

"We've made significant progress," said Action president Mike Woronka. "We have our staff all hired in place and orientation is complete. "Action, based in Wilmington, has hired 20 local workers, 14 full-time. This brings the firm's entire employment to over 250 individuals.

"This has been our smoothest launch," said Woronka. "The employees are energized and the business community has been welcoming."
